SUMMARY:A Cup of Joe
DESCRIPTION:Why are there two Creeds or maybe even three? What exactly is the “Peace of the Lord?” What is a Collect? Why do we hear them every Sunday? What is the “real presence” of Christ in the Eucharist?\n\nFor the last few weeks we have been exploring the origins of various aspects of our wonderful Liturgy with the thesis that some sense of the history\, evolution and scriptural basis of Liturgy will enrich our individual and corporate worship.\n\nPlease join us as we continue to examine the many facets of our liturgical diamond. We meet in the Chapel from 10:00 am until 10:45 am Sunday mornings.\nCoffee is available! \n

SUMMARY:"Love is the Way" Book Study (In-Person)
DESCRIPTION:“Love is the  Way: Holding onto hope in troubling times” Book Study\nLeader: Fr. Joe Bowden\nWhen: Sunday\, 10 – 10:45 a.m.\n\nGather outside by the Celtic Cross (6th St. parking lot side of church) \n  \nJoin Fr. Bowden for this study on our Presiding Bishop’s latest book. All who are interested are invited to gather by the Celtic Cross on Sundays at 10 a.m. We will end promptly by 10:45 am to allow everyone time to get into church. In this book\, Bishop Curry offers no abstract or philosophical analyses of love. He simply tells his personal stories of how he has experienced the love of God\, which he proclaims is the only source and key to life and that love is “an equal opportunity employer.”\nThe book has 12 chapters – we will do two each Sunday. The schedule will look something like this: \n\nMay 9: Introduction\, Chapters 1 and 2\nMay 16: Chapters 3 and 4\nMay 23: Chapters 5 and 6\nMay 30: Chapters 7 and 8\nJune 6: Chapters 9 and 10\nJune 13: Chapters 11 and 12 and Appendix: Love in Action – a Daily Planner.\n\nCopies are available in the Parish Office to anyone interested. For more information\, please contact Maddy Baker.\n  \n

SUMMARY:Advent Stories in Scripture: hearing our story in God's
DESCRIPTION:Location: Join Zoom\nOR from Zoom App\, Meeting ID: 595 177 454\nOR phone-in: (646) 876-9923\nPASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request. \n2020 has been hard. Every year during Advent we expectantly await and prepare for God’s arrival\, but this Advent we have much more to bring before God in supplication and longing. Gather with others each Wednesday to hear a part of the Advent story from our Godly Play ministry and then reflect with Fr. Jenkins through conversation and other media about seeing our life as part of God’s story in this season. This experience will help you prepare to rejoice at the coming celebration of the incarnation\, the Mystery of Christmas! Inquiries\, contact Fr. Jenkins.

SUMMARY:Becoming Beloved Community… Where You Are
DESCRIPTION:BECOMING BELOVED COMMUNITY … WHERE YOU ARE\n\nMinistry of Racial Healing\, Justice\, & Reconciliation \nNext Full Group Meeting: Tuesday\, October 27\, Noon – 1 p.m.\nJoin Zoom \n\nOR from Zoom App\, Meeting ID: 845 5492 0571\nOR phone-in: (646) 876-9923\nPASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy racial healing and justice? The answer is found in our baptismal identity\, most fully articulated in our Baptismal Covenant (BCP 304-5). Why now? Because injustices long accepted as normal no longer are invisible or below our consciousness. The right time to “do justice\, love mercy\, and walk humbly with God” always is the present moment. We cannot change the past; the future\, however\, can be made better.\n\nThis group is working collaboratively to shape this ministry\, and we invite your participation. This group meets to lend mutual support and guidance\, to connect around common passions and interests\, and to discern the path that leads to racial healing and justice where we are. Many small groups are forming to pursue common interests in community.\n\nDrawing guidance from The Episcopal Church’s Becoming Beloved Community framework\, we strive to discern individually and collectively how to: 1) tell the truth about our church and race\, 2) proclaim the dream of beloved community\, 3) practice the Way of Love in the pattern of Jesus\, and 4) repair the breach in our institutions and society.\n\n\nEmail Fr. Jenkins for more information.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer - Orientation and Intention (Online)
DESCRIPTION:Location: Join Zoom\nOR from Zoom App\, Meeting ID: 595 177 454\nOR phone-in: (646) 876-9923\n\nPASSWORD: Email Maddy Elledge to request.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCentering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer\, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. Learn more about Centering Prayer or learn on your own at Contemplativeoutreach.org.\n\n\n“Contemplative practices facilitate and deepen our relationship with God.” This tutorial will offer a “beginner’s” approach to the prayer practice. “The more we practice and allow the transformation process to happen\, the more we are able to experience the Indwelling Presence in everything we do.” \n\nInquiries\, questions to be addressed in the tutorial? Please send them in advance to Fr. John Jenkins.

Our prayer book contains a variety of daily prayer services for both private or public worship. PrayingTogether is an online live lesson that teaches how to pray the daily prayers in The Book of Common Prayer whether you have 5 or 45 minutes.\n\n\nThis session is the Daily Devotions from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP).  These short prayer services can easily be incorporated into busy lives and offer a way to stop\, breathe\, and to remember who we are and whose we are.  These services begin on page 136 of the BCP.  You can also find them here.

This too is a form of contemplative reflection that allow the image to unfold its truth within you. The more we practice and allow the transformation process to happen\, the more we are able to experience the Indwelling Presence in everything we do. These practices are drawn from Rev. Martin Smith’s classic guide The Word is Very Near You: Praying with Scripture\, and Rowan Williams’ The Indwelling of the Light. \nFollowing the tutorial and meditation\, we will join the parish for the liturgy of Compline on the same zoom meeting at 8 p.m. \n\n“Contemplative practices facilitate and deepen our relationship with God.”\n\n\nInquiries\, questions to be addressed in the tutorial? Please send them in advance to Fr. John Jenkins.

Praying Together offers tutorials about prayer and our prayer tradition so that everyone may learn how to pray the daily prayers of our church\, giving their attention and intention to God’s presence in the community of common prayer.\nContact Fr.
