The labyrinth is a single path that has been used as a walking meditation and path for prayer since ancient times. No experience walking a labyrinth is required. DESCRIPTION:Lenten Book Study: Speaking Christian\nWednesdays in Lent\, 12 Noon\, Tyler Hall \nBeginning Wednesday\, March 4\, 12:00 noon in Tyler Hall\, we will explore Marcus Borg’s look into why Christian words have lost their power and how they can be restored.  In his introduction Borg states “Christian language has become a stumbling block in our time.  Much of its basic vocabulary is seriously misunderstood by Christians and non-Christians alike.  Big words like salvation\, saved\, sacrifice\, redeemer\, redemption\, righteousness\, repentance\, mercy\, sin\, forgiveness\, born again\, second coming\, God\, Jesus\, and Bible…have acquired meanings that are serious distortions of their biblical and traditional meanings.”

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:The tradition of an evening celebration of the Eucharist on this day began in the early fifth century under the name “Cena Domini” (“the supper of the Lord.”) “Maundy” comes from the Latin word “mandatum” (“commandment”)\, referring both to Christ’s words “a new commandment I give you\, that you love one another as I have loved you” and to Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist. In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Maundy Thursday service does not end here.  At the end of the service\, we begin the transition to Good Friday.  The Maundy Thursday Liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar by the clergy and the singing of Psalm 22 by the choir\, the lights are dimmed\, and the cross is veiled in black as we kneel and then depart in silence.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s Rose Sunday Concert is Sunday\, March 31\, 4 PM followed by a reception in Tyler Hall and the Celtic Service at 5:30 PM. Our organist\, Keith Shafer\, will play music of Bach\, Mozart\, Franck\, and will conclude with a performance of “Phoenix\,” by William Bates\, an organ work commissioned in 2016 “for Saint Paul’s Church\, Augusta\, Georgia\, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the recovery from the devastating fire of March 22\, 1916.” 100 years ago this month Saint Paul’s Church was preparing to open the present building and “Phoenix” commemorates these significant events in the life of the parish.

During this season of Lent we focus our minds and our hearts on reconnecting to Jesus\, the one whose love for us makes our lives complete and full of life. \nSelf-examination\, asking for forgiveness\, self-denial and reading and meditation on God’s Holy Word\, the Bible\, can help us to focus and connect to God’s life giving Spirit. \nAt our Ash Wednesday services\, those in the congregation are given the opportunity to come to the altar rail and have ashes placed on their foreheads as the clergy say these words\, “Remember that you are dust\, and to dust you shall return.” Here we are reminded that we are mortal and it is only through God’s gracious gift of Jesus\, that we are given everlasting life. \nWe hope that you will join us on Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season as we all recommit ourselves to being faithful followers of Jesus\, our Savior.
