SUMMARY:Good Friday Service
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 10\nGood Friday\, Noon\, Facebook Live\n\nOn Good Friday we observe the Passion of Jesus Christ: recalling Jesus’ arrest\, torture\, and crucifixion.   The service begins and ends in silence. The Passion Gospel and Solemn Collects are read. We do not celebrate the Holy Eucharist.  Although it is a day of great solemnity\, devotion\, self-examination\, and prayer\, it is also a day of restrained anticipation\, promise and hope.\nCollect for Good Friday\nAlmighty God\, we pray you graciously to behold this your family\, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed\, and given into the hands of sinners\, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \nGood Friday Offering  \nGood Friday\, offerings are invited from across The Episcopal Church to support the four dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. These offerings are used to promote peace and mutual understanding through pastoral care\, health care\, and educational programs throughout the region. The generous donations of Episcopalians help the Christian presence in the Land of the Holy One to be a vital and effective force for peace and understanding among all of God’s children. To make a donation\, please make your check payable to Saint Paul’s Church and write “Good Friday Offering” on the memo line. Or you can give online directly by clicking here.

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday Service
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 9\nMaundy Thursday\, 7 p.m.\, Facebook Live \nBulletin for Maundy Thursday 2020 \n  \nThe tradition of an evening celebration of the Eucharist on this day began in the early fifth century . “Maundy” comes from the Latin word “mandatum” (“commandment”)\, referring both to Christ’s words “a new commandment I give you\, that you love one another as I have loved you” and to Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist. In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Maundy Thursday service does not end here.  At the end of the service\, we begin the transition to Good Friday.  The Maundy Thursday Liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar by the clergy and the singing of Psalm 22\, the lights are dimmed\, and the cross is veiled in black as we kneel and then depart in silence. \nThe Collect for Maundy Thursday\nAlmighty Father\, whose dear Son\, on the night before he suffered\, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood: Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord\, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \n

SUMMARY:Children's Advent Liturgy
DESCRIPTION:“The Friendly Beasts” – Journey to Bethlehem: Preparing ourHearts and Minds for the Mystery of Christmas \nOur Saint Paul’s Family is invited to share our journey during our program\, “The Friendly Beasts” that will be part of our 11 AM service on Sunday\, December 22 (Advent 4). Coleman Graham\, one of our formation teachers\, has written the story narrative that we will share. It was inspired by Sufjan Steven’s song\, “The Friendly Beasts”\, which will be performed during the program. We have four soloists from the youth program and Jay Bentley\, one of our Saint Paul’s youth\, will play the guitar. The”Friendly Beasts” tells the story of the journey to Bethlehem and reflects the Advent stories we are sharing each week. We are brought to this story through the eyes of the animals who surrounded the Holy Family and shared the gifts they had to give with such abundance. Our children are making this journey each week in our time together and on Sunday\, December 22\, you are all invited to travel with us. \nAll children 3 years and older are invited to be a part of this program. We gather on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Children’s Ministry Building each Sunday during Advent: December 1-22. We spend the first part of our time together sharing our Advent story. We will then gather all ages together to prepare our program. This is a beautiful opportunity for the children to come together for our journey to Bethlehem.

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:The tradition of an evening celebration of the Eucharist on this day began in the early fifth century under the name “Cena Domini” (“the supper of the Lord.”) “Maundy” comes from the Latin word “mandatum” (“commandment”)\, referring both to Christ’s words “a new commandment I give you\, that you love one another as I have loved you” and to Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist. In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Maundy Thursday service does not end here.  At the end of the service\, we begin the transition to Good Friday.  The Maundy Thursday Liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar by the clergy and the singing of Psalm 22 by the choir\, the lights are dimmed\, and the cross is veiled in black as we kneel and then depart in silence.

SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Service
DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday\, the first day of the 40 day season of Lent\, begins a time of reflection and recommitment to our calling to follow Jesus. During this season of Lent we focus our minds and our hearts on reconnecting to Jesus\, the one whose love for us makes our lives complete and full of life. \nSelf-examination\, asking for forgiveness\, self-denial and reading and meditation on God’s Holy Word\, the Bible\, can help us to focus and connect to God’s life giving Spirit. \nAt our Ash Wednesday services\, those in the congregation are given the opportunity to come to the altar rail and have ashes placed on their foreheads as the clergy say these words\, “Remember that you are dust\, and to dust you shall return.” Here we are reminded that we are mortal and it is only through God’s gracious gift of Jesus\, that we are given everlasting life. \nWe hope that you will join us on Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season as we all recommit ourselves to being faithful followers of Jesus\, our Savior.
