SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:The tradition of an evening celebration of the Eucharist on this day began in the early fifth century under the name “Cena Domini” (“the supper of the Lord.”) “Maundy” comes from the Latin word “mandatum” (“commandment”)\, referring both to Christ’s words “a new commandment I give you\, that you love one another as I have loved you” and to Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist. In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Maundy Thursday service does not end here.  At the end of the service\, we begin the transition to Good Friday.  The Maundy Thursday Liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar by the clergy and the singing of Psalm 22 by the choir\, the lights are dimmed\, and the cross is veiled in black as we kneel and then depart in silence.

DESCRIPTION:Our children will hold the “Children’s Liturgy for Christmas Eve” on the last Sunday of Advent\, December 23. During our 11 AM service\, the children will process and place each figure and piece of our parish Nativity to help our church prepare to celebrate Christmas. Throughout Advent\, the children are gathering to practice and then reflect on the sacred story of God’s coming into the world. Repeatedly\, we share with them that the adults of the parish so love and cherish them that they have asked the children to do this incredibly special and important act of service during worship. DESCRIPTION:The Saint Paul’s Choir sings Evensong Sunday\, November 11\, at 5:30 PM instead of the Celtic service. Evensong\, a service of sung evening prayer\, finds its roots in the Medieval English church and has become one of the most beloved liturgies of the Episcopal Church.  At Saint Paul’s\, the choir sings this beautiful service twice a year.  It is celebrated with the singing of glorious canticles\, psalms\, songs of praise\, and petitions for renewal by the Holy Spirit.   The upcoming Evensong will include music composed by the Reverend Dr. William Dolen including the Preces and Responses\, the Magnificat and Nune Dimittis\, and the anthem\, “I heard the voice of Jesus say.” A reception in Tyler Hall follows Evensong and childcare will be available beginning at 5  PM .
