DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, April 9\nMaundy Thursday\, 7 p.m.\, Facebook Live \nBulletin for Maundy Thursday 2020 \n  \nThe tradition of an evening celebration of the Eucharist on this day began in the early fifth century . “Maundy” comes from the Latin word “mandatum” (“commandment”)\, referring both to Christ’s words “a new commandment I give you\, that you love one another as I have loved you” and to Christ’s command to celebrate the Eucharist. In this service we remember the Passover and the institution of the Holy Eucharist. \nThe Maundy Thursday service does not end here.  At the end of the service\, we begin the transition to Good Friday.  The Maundy Thursday Liturgy concludes with the stripping of the altar by the clergy and the singing of Psalm 22\, the lights are dimmed\, and the cross is veiled in black as we kneel and then depart in silence. \nThe Collect for Maundy Thursday\nAlmighty Father\, whose dear Son\, on the night before he suffered\, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood: Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord\, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \n

The Passion Gospel and Solemn Collects are read. We do not celebrate the Holy Eucharist.  Although it is a day of great solemnity\, devotion\, self-examination\, and prayer\, it is also a day of restrained anticipation\, promise and hope.\nCollect for Good Friday\nAlmighty God\, we pray you graciously to behold this your family\, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed\, and given into the hands of sinners\, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \nGood Friday Offering  \nGood Friday\, offerings are invited from across The Episcopal Church to support the four dioceses of the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. These offerings are used to promote peace and mutual understanding through pastoral care\, health care\, and educational programs throughout the region.
