Associate Rector

Saint Paul’s Church in downtown Augusta, a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, seeks a full-time Associate Rector. The Associate Rector will share in all aspects of the Rector’s ministry, with special attention to pastoral care and further deepening the parish’s relationship with our vibrant, diverse, rapidly changing downtown neighborhood.

Principal Duties include:

  • Regular participation in planning and leading worship on Sundays, weekdays, and special occasions.
  • Provide direct pastoral care to parishioners and neighbors throughout the CSRA, and support the further development of our committed lay pastoral care team.
  • Develop and deepen the parish’s relationship with our downtown neighborhood:
    • Build relationships with other downtown churches and organizations contributing to the well-being of our neighbors and the vitality of the neighborhood. Help connect parishioners to opportunities to serve in partnership with these other organizations.
    • Learn the needs of our neighbors and communicate these needs to the parish. Working with lay ministers, clergy, and staff, develop ministries to respond to these needs.
    • In partnership with our outreach committee, support and expand standing outreach ministries.
    • Help the parish to think creatively about ways to proclaim the gospel in our changing context.
  • Contribute to existing ministries and develop new ministries according to your gifts.
  • At every moment, seek to encourage and develop the ministries and leadership of the baptized. Work collaboratively with colleagues and parishioners.
  • Maintain a life of prayer and study.

Other Duties:

  • Working collaboratively with clergy, staff, and existing lay leaders, participate in the planning and implementation of formation opportunities for all ages aimed at deepening and extending Christian discipleship.
  • Play an active role in strategic planning and annual mutual ministry review.
  • Maintain and support the parish’s commitment to intergenerational fellowship and ministry.
  • Social media discretion is required; positive social media competence would be great.
