“Benji” is in Bloom!

“Benji,” the Franklinia Alatamaha tree planted two years ago in the center of the triangle between church and chapel has fallen in love with his new home.

This rare specimen is from the original root stock brought back to Philadelphia by the famous American botanist, William Bartram, a friend of Benjamin Franklin. Bartram discovered the tree growing on the banks of the Alatamaha river in Georgia.

Our tree was planted by the Georgia branch of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and is lovingly cared for by Keith Shafer and the Saint Paul’s gardeners.
